My Graduation film.

Review by Frank de Neeve, critic for specialist journal Skrien:

The best film of conscription 2007 is nevertheless a documentary.
I stopped playing by Auke Hamers is a short film about an extraordinary man.
Jozef van de Berg was a theatre maker, but he now lives with the lord
(Greek-Orthodox) and in relative isolation in a little shed.
In the first half of the film nothing much occurs.
Hamers observes the little proceedings of the man in shots with the beauty
of sepia picture postcards. Hamers also cherishes the silence,
but when Van den Berg finally opens his mouth, he shows thoughts
that only makes the curiosity for this man bigger.
Auke Hamers doesn’t fall for the easy trap of the caricature
or the funny lunatic that characterize many quickly and sketchy
stirred up reports.
The filmmaker mirrors the serenity and quietness of his character in a film
that also thanks to the shortness preserves the mystery
and echoes through the mind.
